F2 is a Wisconsin original. It is the result of Winemaker Steve’s belief that blending of our cold climate grape varietals will lead to the best expression of wine from this region. This wine is a 50/50 blend of two grapes grown here on the Wisconsin Ledge, Frontenac and Marechal Foch (also called Foch).  When it came time to name this wine Steve and Maria decided that  ‘F’rontenac X ‘F’och = ‘F2’. This is meant to be pronounced as F squared and not F two.

Apellation: Wisconsin Ledge

Residual sugar: Dry

Winemaker's Notes

When it comes to red wine, the term age-ability often comes up. Age-ability is desirable characteristic in wine, however not all wines will develop nuance and subtle flavors over time.  Acidity is on of the key components needed for a wine to maintain its’ structure or framework over time and allows for the wine’s flavors, color, and mouth-feel to evolve. While many California winemakers would feel intimated by the very high acidities that result from our varietals and our cooler climate, they would yearn for the structure our acidities can provide. The 2015 vintage of F2 demonstrated the aging potential of cold climate reds when allowed to age for a year or two or more before enjoyment.
This 2016 vintage is sure to evolve and mature over time just like the 2015 vintage. As this wine matures the toast of oak will add an expression of dark chocolate, a common characteristic of an age wine made with the Frontenac grape, to this fruit-forward wine.  .

Tasting Notes

This dry, full-bodied red wine has fruit-forward aromatics with lingering notes of dark cherry, baking spices, and ripe plums.  A wine to enjoy now, but will only get better over time. Pair with steak, roast, ribs, and red sauces.
