F2 is a Wisconsin original.  It is a 50/50 blend of two grapes grown in the vineyards of Parallel 44 and across the state, Frontenac and Foch (usually known as Marechal Foch).  So when it came time to name this wine we decided that   ‘F’rontenac X ‘F’och = ‘F2’. This is meant to be pronounced as F squared and not F two.  This wine is a result of Winemaker Steve’s belief that blending of our cold climate grape varietals will lead to the best expression of wine from this region.

Apellation: Wisconsin Ledge

Residual sugar: Dry

Winemaker's Notes

When it comes to red wine, the term age-ability often comes up.  Age-ability is that characteristic of some wines, but not all that will allow the wine to develop nuance and subtle flavors over time, as in years of time.  Acidity is the backbone or the required chemistry necessary in grapes and wines that allow it to maintain a structure or framework for flavors, tannins, color, and mouthfeel to evolve.  While many California winemakers would feel intimated by the very high acidities that result from our varietals and our cooler climate, they would yearn for the structure our acidities can provide.
The prior vintage of F2 clearly demonstrated the maturing process that occurs if cold climate reds are allowed to age for a year or two or more before enjoyment. The toast of oak and the passage of time will leave you with the dark chocolate expressions that comes from mature Frontenac wine. You can expect this 2016 vinatge to evolve & mature over time.

Tasting Notes

This dry, full-bodied blend has fruit forward aromatics with lingering notes of dark cherry.  A wine to enjoy now but will only get better over time.  The 2016 vintage is 100% Wisconsin grown. Pair with steak, roast, ribs, and red sauces.
